Gents,

I am looking for any information on the following -

German camera types and models produced and possibly used during the Second World War.

Any articles, information or research in regards to photography and the techniques used by the Germans during the war.

Information regarding German journalists (famour or otherwise) that covered the conflict. Were there any free-lance journalists or was this solely controlled by the Reichs Propagandaministerium? Were there any German "Robert Capas"?

Thanks,

Füsilier Prien

With regards camera models. Clearly Leica was a mainstay during WW2.

Here is some limited info on the pre-dominant Leica models used (cannot verify the source).

http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/lei ... page2.html

I have started to go through my collection of "Signals" & "Die Wehrmacht" and will list the correspondents, issues they appeared in and the theatre/location where possible. May be useful in building up a database of info on KB's etc.

Here is an article with a brief history and structure of a Propaganda Kompanie and the training and roles a KB would have been expected to undertake. (Cannot verify source).

http://www.defendingarnhem.com/Kriegsberichter.htm

This article from the US War Dept 1943 gives far greater detail to the structure, control and reporting lines of the propaganda function.

Although these two articles don't directly answer your original questions, thought that they may still be of interest.

All the best

Last post I promise you!

Looks like one of the more famous KB's was SS PK Roth - they have just published (in April) a book of his work.

Roth, Franz - Untersturmfuehrer commanded 7. Zug of the Kriegsberichter Abteilung assigned to LAH in 1941 for Greece and Barbarossa, holder of the Winter 1941-1942 Medal and the Iron Cross I, killed in action early 1943

I don't know how much written information on him is in the book, but it may be worth a look.

Available though Amazon etc.
