Hi Otto,

You seem very good on the subjact of TruppenFahrrads. I've looked into my bike and believe it's not ment to have the large rack and the box. It should have a small rack (or no rack) and should have a pump. It also should be painted black but with parts being silver. I'd also like a bell.

It this right?

I would like to restore it to how it was original because the bike is what i'd say in fair condition. The saddle is in need of restoration. So is the dynamo and the back wheel.

Thanks,
Nathan

Hi Nathan, You are right about the pump, this was fitted to the frame by sprung clips which allowed you to move the pump to different parts of the frame. That gave you room to fit different pieces of equipment to the bike, like your grenade box. As for your Truppenfahrrad, parts would have been chopped and changed depending on the service it would be put to. It could have carried Teller mines, K98, Grenades, Panzerfaust and ammo boxes. The bikes normally came in satin black but there was the odd camo paint job. The Soldat sometimes painted the plated parts black as well, as it was not a good idea to have chrome in the field. As time went on they pressed civilian bikes into service, espescially Dutch ones. You should have a rear reflector on the mudguard but these went missing even at the time. Otto.

Hallo,

I also believe that there is a way of attaching a StG44!

Do you have the German language TFR book?

DDD!

Hi there,

I am going to be restoring my bike to the condition it would have been in in 1944. Some parts are going to be nickel plated (suggested buy a relative who restores early motor bikes-1920's etc - he can do it himself).

I think I am going to have the following part nickle plated...

The front of the lamp around the glass and the arm that holds it in place.

Also may have the pedal arms plated and the brake leaver.

The wheels are going to be painted black.

Some parts are going to be cleaned up and left bare metal like... the brake rod and the saddle attachments.

If I were to take my original box to a paint shop and have the colour matched by a computer and then gave it to someone we know of with a spay gun and let them spray it propperly in a sattin finish.

Before any painting we are going to get some of the parts powder coated.

Sound good?

Thanks,
Nathan
