Just got my greedy little hands on a copy of God, Honour, Fatherland: A Photo History of Panzergrenadier Division "Grossdeutschland" on the Eastern Front 1942 - 1944 by Thomas McGuirl and Remy Spezzano and is forwarded by Heinrich Gerbener, a formor GD battalion commander. The veteran's association was also involved in its production according to the dust jacket.
It is split up into years and the picture quality is superb. Each picture has a caption explaining not only what and where, but also giving information about the people and activities. With an RRP of £45 (I got it for £35) it isn't cheap, but is well worth it. WHSmith are flogging it for £29. It is hot off the press too, being published in 2008. I'll bring it along to Beltring for those who want a look at what I think is a great book.
My apologies that you have not been made aware of this "Bible" for GD living historians!!! Some of the photos in that book have inspired some of our LH scenes. As you say, it is an excellent book, and is very well regarded. This will be a re-print as the first edition was some 8-10 years ago from memory.
You are certainly getting all the right reference material Paul, bodes well!
Cheers
PS - See PM.

You cannot go much wrong with this book! As you by now know, it is a gold mine of photographic eveidence.
Overall the information contained within is pretty good. Herr Gerbener offered much insight to the 2 authors (one of which is now sadly dead i believe), and is still attending the veteran's reunions.
Be aware that there are 'bloopers' within the book, specifically regarding order of battle information.
Obviously a French book but with your Alsace background no problem for you!! Well researched, many many photos, a hefty volume indeed. Not to be missed if you are serious about GD research!
