I am strongly considering going down the firearm certificate road in order to buy a functional K98 I could use during tactical encounters. How much do these generally run to and can anyone recommend decent suppliers?
Thanks!

Hi,

Your looking around £225+/-! You can't use the rifle for live shooting unless stated on you FAC, you would want an FAC for Blanks Only! If you had 2 K98's you could not use one for the other ie one for blanks with live ammo etc You !Must! have a gun cabinet on a propper wall (Thick BricK  ) and in the main house (not a garage)! You will have the 'police' round to check out the area you live and house (for locks and doors  ) etc!

At around £200 Give or Take (These are Russian Capture with the 'X' stamp and re-blued metal work and varnished stocks)

Love these guns! Condition is ++++++++++ :!:

All the best,

Thanks for the reply Nathan. I am aware of the requirements and used to have a shotgun and black powder explosives certificate, so I envisage no problems obtaining one. Thank you for the link. I'll head on over there!

See you in London!

Paul

Another question, folks! If in the future, I wanted to mount a scope to a K98 in order to work on a sniper impression, would that be easily mounted on any K98? (Yes, I have been reading the memoirs of Sepp Allerberger Sniper on the Eastern Front!)

Hi Tadders

Keep an eye out in Gun Mart for functioning K98's upon successful receipt of your FAC1. Also, send an email out to all the chaps nearer the time. They may well know if one is up for sale.

Re your question on the scope, I would think that the Herr Hauptfeldwebel can help you there.

Hi Paul

Unfortunetly if you are looking to do a K98 as a snipers it would be no goer thay were to the best of my knowledge produced in the factory as snipers rifles Side scopes were fitted on a rail which were fitted on the main body of the K98
so this means cutting the wood down and securing the slide rail Top mounted scopes
again these were not attached with clamps and fitted onto the top of the rifle so to try and do a standard K98 as a snipers rifle would be sacrilage

If you are keen on getting a sniper K98 dig deep you are looking at anything from
£2000.00 upwards :o

I will fill you in on more details when I see you in London in a couple of weeks

Hmmmm. Oh well. Perhaps a Russian sniper might be cheaper. Allerberger used one for most of his career.
