Hi all,

Rations? What would be issued in 1944 on the eastern front? After Bauer giving me advice on filling my breadbag to make it look more authentic, it got me thinking...
I'm now thinking of making the Dauerbrot Ration? See below...

http://www.dererstezug.com/MakingDauerbrotRations.htm

I know you can buy original and repro ration and personal items from...

www.ostfront.com

I have bought a few items for my pockets and breadbag from this site over the last few years. But the ration, you can't really buy, where you can, I find it's not really correct.

I know Fitos and Dave do personal items and they are good repros! As do a select few other dealers and living historians.

Anyone make the correct 'Linde's'' Kaffee?

Any advice? What should I have in my breadbag?

Thanks,
Nathan

Hallo,

Anything and everything could go into the 'breadbag'! The infantry Reibert stipulates the basics (fat dish, cap, eating irons etc), but one can guess that it depends on just what you were issued with in the first place. One of our members recalls talking to an Afrika veteran who said that he used his for carrying around spare ammo.........

Stick to the basics, not every soldier was equipped with everything he was supposed to receive, especially as the war dragged on. In fact, with all the repro stuff available now, it is reasonable to suggest that we have more to stuff our pockets and breadbags with than the soldiers we are portraying?

DDD!

    Hi :) ,

I have an Original black butter dish and an Original aluminium 'spork'!
I also have an original Esbit cooker etc. I didn't want to put that in because not every soldier would have had one. So I am trying to fill it out with food.

    Apple (or 2)
    Bread (In lower tunic pocket)
    Crisp Bread in Breadbag
    'Spork' in breadbag
    Butter dish in breadbag
    Cap in belt or breadbag
    Soldbuch in top left pocket
Boot brush in lower tunic pocket (not he one with bread  )
Wallet in trouser pocket (full of original and repro items)
    Packet of repro Welt-Holzer matches

Thats what I would carry to most events! (Well, I don't have all of it..most though!)

    Thanks :D ,
    Nathan

    Hi Nathan,

Good to see your enthusiasm. If you listen to the Herr Leutnant and Hauptfeldwebel Kalten, you will not go far wrong.

    All the best
